The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $90+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. For more information please visit OIM's website at This internship position is located in the Sustainable Investment- Impact and Partnerships Team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. As part of the Sustainable Investing team and reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the unit oversees the definition and execution of the fund’s impact investing programme and manages stakeholders such as external managers and stewardship service providers. The Impact and Partnerships unit works closely with the rest of the investment teams to define an impact investing approach across asset classes, conducts impact investing due diligence following industry standards and conducts impact portfolio monitoring. The unit also coordinates the fund’s stewardship strategy, to enhance OIM’s investment impact through oversight of proxy voting and engagement activities. The incumbent reports to the Investment Officer for Responsible Investment - Impact and Partnership. The incumbent can work full time or part time, in-person at OIM’s office in New York or remotely and can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Impact Investing: Assist in the continuous development of OIM’s impact investing framework, including policies, processes, procedures and implementation plan. Understanding the exposure of UNJSPF’s to impact themes and sustainable opportunities. Tasks: • Assisting with due diligence processes for new impact investment opportunities, including the review of ESG and impact-related materials and the integration of impact considerations into investment recommendations. • Supporting the monitoring of existing impact investments, including tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), reviewing reporting from managers and maintaining monitoring tools. • Contributing to the production of internal and external reporting materials related to impact investing, including investment memos, case studies and updates for senior management. 2) External Managers Project: ESG pre-investment due diligence external managers across all asset classes. Post-investment ESG monitoring of external managers, including engagement to encourage best practice. Tasks: • Conduct ESG due diligence on external managers in public and private markets, to assess ESG practices and score against OIM criteria • Conduct ESG monitoring with existing external managers to assess ESG practices and areas for improvement • Evaluate existing climate disclosure from UNJSPF’s external managers in both public and private markets. • PRI monitoring- Gathering private markets GPs and public markets managers’ PRI ratings and scorecard to inform managers’ alignment with OIM PRI signature requirement and future engagement Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
